After 5: McCormick & Schmick’s, CityPlace

Happy hours: 3:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday

The crowd: A good mix of every age group, from flirty young things to older couples out with friends.

Surrounds: Rich, dark wood makes you want to wear your summer best.  However, the bar menu is served only at the bar, outside the main dining room.  Prepare for no AC. Open sliding doors made it a bit warm.

Barback: Friendly, young servers. Corrine answered our every question with a big smile.

The sips: The $3 watermelon and mint-infused sake was a quick shot of refreshment, cool and tasty. Only a sip or two before it’s down the hatch. The $6.95 Raspberry Fizz proved a longer-lasting delight with gin, fresh raspberries, mint and Sprite. We lucked out. The drink usually contains raspberry syrup, but they were out. The fresh fruit prevented this special from being overly sweet.

The noshes:  No freebies were in plain sight. Almost everyone goes for the fun bar menu. The half-pound cheeseburger and fries was more than filling for $2.95, but the alligator bites with jalapeno tartar sauce was a chance to explore, for $3.95.

Tunes or noise:  The music mix proved too loud, especially with the doors open and street noise filtering in.

Rating:  3.5 olives

Agree that it was too noisy. Very hard to hear my friends. Nice otherwise, though. Just don’t expect to have a real conversation when the music is on.

I am due to be at CityPark on business, so on your recommendation I will give it a try, the aligator bites sound devine.

    Thank you.

My kind of place! I think I will give it a try next week. Sounds like good times.
