February is a primo month for cooks in our area. Classes and food events abound. Consider giving a certificate to a cooking class at Publix Aprons or Florida Culinary Institute for a Valentine’s Day gift to your special cook. Or get in on one of the tastings or dinners at Robb & Stucky’s Culinary Center. New on the list: classes start at Cook’s Inc. in Jupiter’s Abacoa with a free class on Feb. 5 – reserve your spot now! Join me in person at the Chocolate Decadence event in Boca Feb. 5, at Lake Worth’s Oceanside Greenmarket Feb. 14 for a chocolate demo, and at Delray Beach’s Garlic Fest that weekend where I’m judging.   • Wednesday, Feb. 4: Hands-on class – Italian Techniques – Second of a three-part series; 10 a.m., $150.
  • Thursday, Feb. 5: Hands-on class – The Good Patissier – 6 p.m., $35.
  • Saturday, Feb. 7: Demo-technique class – Romantic Rendezvous – 6:30 p.m., $80 (per couple).

  • Thursday, Feb. 5: Free cooking class 6-8 p.m., to introduce the classes and schedule to the public. On the menu: lemony hummus with grilled pita, endive with salmon mouseline, grapes rolled in Gorgonzola and studded with pecans, Mediterranean crostini. Free, but reservations required; space is limited.

  • Friday, Feb. 6: Demo technique class – Flavors of Jamaica: 6-8 p.m., $40.

Thursday, Feb. 5: The Junior League of Boca Raton’s 8th Annual Chocolate Decadence: The Sweetest Party in Town – Sample chocolate from South Florida’s renowned restaurants, chocolatiers, manufacturers, caterers and more. Food, wine, music and entertainment are part of the event.  The Shops at Boca Center, on Military Trail in front of the Marriott Hotel, 5150 Town Center Circle, Boca Raton. From 6-9 p.m., $40 general admission, $75 VIP. Saturday, Feb. 14: To Chocolate with Love – Chocolate Breakfast Tasting: A fundraising event to benefit ALS through the not-for-profit Roger M. Daubach Foundation Inc. at the Oceanside Farmers Market, Lake Worth Beach at A1A and Lake Avenue, Lake Worth. A raffle of chocolate cookbooks, tastings of chocolate treats, and live music are part of the event. Chocolate demonstrations by Pastry Chef Matthew of Café Boulud, food writer Jan Norris, and chocolate painting on recycled canvas bags instructed by vendor/artist Diane Hutchinson. Free parking. 9 a.m. – Noon. $5 suggested donation.

Friday-Sunday, Feb. 13-15: Delray Beach 10th Annual Garlic Fest, Swinton and Atlantic Avenues next to Old School Square, Delray Beach: Food highlights include Garlic Chef competition –  annual contest in “Iron Chef” style contest; open to the public. Semi-finals 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and 2:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday; finals, 11 am.-1 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. Sunday. Andy Trousdale of Le Bistro in Lighthouse Point defends his title of Garlic Chef. Other food events: Great Delray Beach Pizza War from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday ,and numerous cooking demonstration all days. Beer and wine garden new this year. Tuesday, Feb. 17: Community Caring Center’s 9th Annual Harvest of Hearts Dinner – The annual fundraising event will be a “New Orleans Style” buffet dinner which will be provided by the Ocean Ave. Green Market Café chefs. Cash bar, silent auction, music and dancing will be part of the evening’s entertainment.  At Boynton Beach Women’s Club, 1010 S. Federal Hwy., Boynton Beach. 6 p.m. cash bar and silent auction, 7 p.m. dinner, $65 per person. Call 561-364-9501, ext. 24 for reservations.
