EatBeat: Boca Bacchanal 2009

February 27th, 2009 · No Comments

Lucky folks who’ve scored a ticket to one of the season’s top wine and food events, Boca Bacchanal. In case you didn’t get in on one of the private vitner-chef dinners in the homes, there are still tickets left to the Grand Tasting on Sunday in Mizner Park.

This is the event’s seventh year — and it’s always a sell-out. Planners have a knack for bringing in top chefs and pairing them with interesting vitners at the private homes dinners. Chefs preparing these dinners include Amanda Lydon, of Nantucket’s Straight Wharf; Gerry Klaskala, of Atlanta’s Aria; Erasto Jacinto of Mustard’s and Pablo Jacinto, of Cindy’s Backstreet Kitchen — both in St. Helena, Calif.; Juff Tunks, of DC Coast in Washington, D.C.; Rick Edge of PlumpJack Cafe in San Francisco; Sean Brock of McCrady’s in Charleston, S.C., and our own Stephen Asprinio, who is currently doing restaurant consulting.

At Saturday night’s grand auction, at the Boca Raton Resort & Club, top prizes include luxe items like a South African vacation or a tour of the wine country.

The outdoor fun is at Sunday’s Grand Tasting, where chef David Morel of Legal Sea Foods will oversee a cast of dozens of chefs from the area presenting tastings along with more than 140 wines showcased. Tickets are still available for this casual dine-around.

Boca Bacchanal is a charity event, benefitting the Boca Raton Historical Society’s Heritage Education Programs, educational programs that preserve the past by teaching the future generations about Boca’s history.
