EatBeat: Brogue’s in Lake Worth Goes Down Under with New Owners

Brogue’s, the popular Irish bar in Lake Worth on Lake Avenue, is now an Australian-themed bar, courtesy new owners, Emily, Rob and Tania Regan. Emily and Rob are “kiwis” – New Zealanders – who migrated to Australia where they reared Tania, before moving to the U.S. The Regans are former owners of a delis in Australia, and most recently, the Bees Knees gift shop in Lake Worth.

Brogue’s Down Under, and the back room – the Aussie Boomerang Bar – changed hands last month and is already drawing crowds.

They’re change the food first. “We’re going to have nice food like different salads, good fish dishes, quiche, and Australian and New Zealand wines,” Emily said prior to the opening.

As for traditional foods, they’ll be there, too. “Bacon and egg sandwiches, sausage rolls, chicken pie – that sort of thing. We won’t have Vegemite sandwiches till Christmas though. Our grandson is bringing it (Vegemite) over from Australia then.”

They have live music at the Aussie Boomerang Bar. “I don’t know if we can find someone to blow the didgeridoo, but I’m going to try. If you know of anyone who plays the didgeridoo, let me know!” she said.

Other changes in the restaurant are planned, but over time, she said.

    looks like the makings of a fine restaurant instead of an overly loud, raffish crowd

    Food is MUCH improved – fish & chips light and crunchy and the bangers and mash are perfect. Midlife Crysis is a great band – glad they are continuing with quality local bands. Best of luck!

    Looking for a place to comment and the page is not set up to comment. I had a private party in the back room. The staff was great. Although the bday cake I paid for was hard and no one liked it. It was a waste of money. It also was NOT made to order. There were people from the other bar coming in to the private room and I was constantly asking them to leave. NOT cool. The owner was rude to me because not all my guest showed up. I will NOT recommend this place in the future. The old owners were MUCH nicer and more accomodating. Not very pleased.

    Hi,

    Last sunday night, my wife and I went to downtown Lake Worth for dinner. The place, we wanted to go, Dave.s, was closed and for sale, so we decided to go to Brogue,s dow under, based on the excellent reviews it got. When we stepped inside, we were greeted by a blast of ice cold air and the music was playing at ear splitting levels.

    When wetold the hostess outside, she told us to go talk to the bartender and he might turn it down. Needless to say, we didn’f bother to go inside again. If that is what they think of their customers, than they won’t be in business for very long.

    Hmm, my experience was entirely different than Mr. Swinkels in that I enjoyed receiving the blast of cold air when I walked in form the outside. It’s then, when one walks in, that it becomes easily apparent the tidiness and orderliness of the new ownership. From spirits and staff to kitchen, easily the flagship venue in downtown Lake Worth.

    There were 6 of us 1 time and we used the back room that had a huge comfortable table…sat in comfy couches and listened to some great music. The food was great,,,corned beef and cabbage, shepards pie, perfect hamburger, an interesting seafood dish and the best teriyaki chicken wings anywhere.The owner is so much fun and you can just have a great time eating, drinking and enjoying good music!! A great menu and lots of fun.

    Well, i do want to say the not so new place is still a show stopper when it comes to food. We had the best fish and chips and grouper curry, real nice and fresh.
    We topped it off with the famous Pistachio cake. The presentation was as good as the cake. You won’t be disappointed. Go try a piece of Lake Worth eating.
