Chef Allen Susser decided the Abacoa area is great for his next Burger Bar. “Being across from Scripps and Abacoa is going to be a great location,” he said.
He talked to us about the new burger joint – one of many he hopes to open throughout South Florida in the near future.
Same format as in airport
“It’s a knockoff of what I’m doing at the Fort Lauderdale airport,” he said. That menu features a fairly small burger list – plain, cheeseburger, a bacon-Swiss called a Beach Burger, to a Surf and Turf with shrimp, and the non-burger variations with turkey, spicy tuna, or portobello.
Susser said his burger meat is a special blend of all-natural Angus flank, skirt and porterhouse steaks ground fresh for his shop. Rolls are made in-house.
Adult shakes – the Nutella bourbon or brandy Alexander are popular – will be on the full-bar menu that will include classic cocktails and some innovative ones, along with a full list of craft beers.
Prices will range from around $10 for a basic burger to $15 for an all-decked-out one.
“It’s a good plaza,” he said. “The plaza has a nice outside seating area, so we’ll have inside and outside bars. It’ll be a really cool place to hang out, have a burger and a drink. We’ll be open late, so you can stop in after a movie and grab a burger.”
Burger Bar by Chef Allen will be in the Donald Ross Village on Military Trail and Donald Ross Road, Palm Beach Gardens. It’s scheduled to open sometime in October.
Susser said other Burger Bars are planned in South Florida, and in other airports across the country.
