EatBeat: Clematis District Has New Eats Coming Soon – and Juicy Rumors

The Duke with '60s surfers and longboards

Downtown Clematis continues to grow and change these days.

Next up is Longboards – a bar with a surf theme brought to you by Rodney Mayo (of Respectable Street fame, among many others). It’s due to open June 30 on the west end of Clematis and start out with a big block party on July 2.

A bar made from a vintage long surfboard – the style best associated with the surf craze in America in the ’60s – is the focal point. Expect tiki-type drinks, and good bar food here and cool surf decor. More to come when I learn it. . .

Though not official, but allegedly in the works is The Wine Dive. It’s an original concept said to be going in on Clematis by John Webb of Roxy’s. Talk is that it will be a wine bar, but more casual and approachable than most. No word on when, just yet.

Also in the works: Five Guys Burgers. And possibly, Outback Steakhouse – but no confirmations or timing of either has been released.

Flavor Palm Beach kicks off August 26 on the Waterfront, with the month of September seeing discounts at restaurants downtown and in CityPlace. Stay tuned for more on that.
