EatBeat: Palm Beach Restaurant Month Kicks Off

June 1st, 2009 · 6 Comments

palmbeachrestmonthYou have 30 days and nights — all of June – to get in on Palm Beach Restaurant Month and try a restaurant on the island at a discount.

The month of lunch and dinner deals is modeled on one started in New York after 9/11 to lure back diners into restaurants and support businesses struggling to deal with a city upended. They offered fixed-price meals for $20.01.

It spread to other metro areas, and became a hit with diners. They’ve repeated it every year increasing the price only by a penny to match the year for lunch; dinner is typically $10 more.

Here in resortville

Summer is typically slow here, and restaurants are eager to fill seats and attract new diners as well. So expect these 14 restaurants to strut their stuff.

Lunch is $20.09, dinner, $35 a person for a three-course meal – excluding tax and tip.

Participating restaurants are: Bice Ristorante; Cafe L’Europe; Cafe Boulud in the Brazilian Court Hotel; Charley’s Crab; The Leopard Lounge at the Chesterfield Hotel; COCO Palm Beach; the Flagler Steakhouse, the Italian Restaurant  and the Seafood Bar at The Breakers; the Ocean Bistro at the Four Seasons; Renato’s; Temple Orange at the Ritz-Carlton; Ta-Boo; and Trevini.

I won’t name favorites — I’ve dined at most of these, or with their chefs several times. I can tell you it’s a great deal for classy meals as only you find in Palm Beach. If you do try them out, come back here and report back on your hits and misses — we’re listening!

What a great opportunity! The restaurant lineup is over the top. Let’s start a petition to increase the number of days in June to 90.

Ha! I want to see tons more restaurants involved – make it county, not city-wide!
    Go forth and dine!!!

We went to Cafe Boulud last year. It was a real value, and they really took good care of us. I’m game for doing it again.

We ate at Ta-boo last night.

I forgot how much of a ghost town Palm Beach is in the summer. The place was practically empty, especially since we had a 7:00 reservation and all of the “early bird” crowd was leaving as we got there.

The manager was a delight and we received a warm greeting when we arrived. Service was OK.

We participated in the Restaurant Month offer. I had salmon, my friend had snapper. We shared the appetizers, brie and Caesar salad. Brie was good, salad was completely soggy. Entrée’s were pretty good, not stellar, but they gladly substituted spinach from another dish for the carrots that were offered with mine. Desserts were a little boring.

You know you’re on Palm Beach too late on a week night when the Valet walks to your table and drops off your keys to you at 8:00 😉

We ate at Renato’s – and it was heavenly! The wait staff is well-trained and caring. We also selected from the Restaurant Month selections – the trout almondine just melted in my mouth. Arugula salad with shavings of cheese was great and the apple pie with cinnamon ice cream was the perfect finale. Of course we had to have a bottle of wine – thank you Renato’s!
