Two longtime county restaurants closed this week – the Raindancer steakhouse, around since 1975, made it official that they were closing by refunding discount coupons. Still no word from owner Frank Calender on what caused the steakhouse, popular with an older generation of diners, to close; economic downturns, new competition and a shifting demographic in the area may have contributed to it.
The steakhouse was a favorite for its lengthy salad bar, professional service and choice steaks at the height of its fame.
Their sister restaurant, the River House in Palm Beach Gardens, is doing well, according to a worker there.
Margy’s in Boynton
Also sorry to lose Margy’s Restaurant, most recently located on the ground floor of the Promenade in Boynton Beach.
The American-Greek restaurant, a local favorite, was owned by Irene Apaslopilous and had been Boynton fixture for years serving breakfast and lunch.
They were closed while the Promenade was being built, but the Community Redevelopment Association afforded them low rent to return to the location on Federal Highway once the development was completed. An odd parking arrangement forced diners had to walk around the building in order to enter the café.
The café also was difficult to find if you weren’t looking for it.

Sorry to hear Margy’s couldn’t make a go of it. I remember going to their old location for Greek favorites and, believe it or not, grilled blueberry muffins.
