EatBeat: Reserve Now for Flavor Palm Beach! Dining Deals for Month of September

September 5th, 2012 · No Comments

The Ironwood Grille is a beautiful setting in the PGA National Resort and Spa – one of dozens of the restaurants participating in Flavor Palm Beach, 2012.

Diners – start hitting the website Flavorpb.com to find deals as the month-long dining promotion, Flavor Palm Beach, continues for its fifth year to restaurants throughout Palm Beach County.

Whatever your fancy, there’s a prix fixe three-course menu for you out there to take advantage of at during the entire month of September. More than 40 restaurants will be participating, offering special menus and tastings for those who’ve reserved their seats.

Most offer several choices for each of the three courses – giving diners several ways to create a meal at both lunch and dinner. All are priced under $35; most complete lunches are $20 and dinners, $30-$35.

Special events for this year include tonight’s kick-off – Cocktails with the Chefs – for a cause. From 6-8 p.m. at III Forks and Cantina Laredo – both in Midtown, Palm Beach Gardens, there are samples of drinks, bites from both kitchens, and a silent auction with all of the proceeds benefiting Share Our Strength.  Tickets are $15 online or $20 at the door. Diners have a chance to do a meet-greet-eat with the chefs.

Also new this year is the partnership with Share Our Strength, a national program for hunger relief that gives back to local organizations.

Focus on Palm Beach County restaurants

The real point of the promotion is to get people into the restaurants during the shoulder season in South Florida and give locals a chance to try restaurants that are relative newcomers, as well as some that are under the radar – Bistro 1001 in West Palm Beach, for example, where there’s a gourmet burger to be discovered, or Josef’s Table in Boca Raton. At Josef’s, their entire menu is available for dinner at $35 for three courses (don’t miss the crabmeat tower or apfel strudel).

Sidewalk seating at Cafe Chardonnay, Palm Beach Gardens.

Restaurants don’t skimp. From Cafe Chardonnay’s lunch menu, you could choose lobster bisque, pan-seared Gulf shrimp with lemon Parmesan risotto and a vanilla bean creme brulee – all for just $20. At Malcolm’s in the Omphoy, tease your palate with with a chilled prawn and corn soup with popcorn ice cream, seared laughingbird shrimp and brioche, and a hanger steak sous vide (with leek puree, potato galette and a red wine sauce) ending with a lemongrass creme brulee.

Seasonal and Florida dishes are available – like the grilled peach and baby lettuce salad, or summer corn “chowdah” from 3800 Ocean’s dinner.

Try a classic in its proper environment – a coq au vin or croque monsieur at Cafe Boulud, where you also can find a lemongrass coconut ginger floating island – a modern Asian twist on a classic dessert.

Local classics are here, too: The onion soup from the old Yesterday’s restaurant on the Intracoastal in Fort Lauderdale is now on the lunch menu at Rack’s Downtown Eatery in Boca. Testa’s in Palm Beach is offering up its famous chicken salad, and signature strawberry pie. There’s a reason they have remained popular all these years – try them during Flavor Palm Beach.

Visit restaurants that might be on your special occasion list: The Breakers, the Four Seasons or Morton’s Steakhouse.

Eat with chefs who are shaking things up – Chris Miracola is the up-and-comer at Max’s Harvest in Delray Beach where there is a serious farm-to-fork theme involved in his menu choices. Try the golden gazpacho that has backyard Delray mangoes and the Space Coast’s famous rock shrimp in it.

Some restaurants, like Rosso in Boca Raton, change their menus each week – there’s no limit on how many times you can take advantage of the promotion, as long as you have a reservation – highly recommended for most.

When you reserve, make sure to mention you’re coming in for the Flavor menu.
