EatBeat: Umi Fish Bar and Grill, from Carmine Giardini, Coming to Palm Beach Gardens

October 20th, 2010 · No Comments

Carmine Giardini, owner of Carmine’s Gourmet Market, is set to open Umi Fish Bar and Grill behind his market in the Gardens sometime in December.

Umi will be a mix of concepts that includes a sushi bar, tapas plates, and a robata grill – a wood grilling system based on traditional Japanese grills — shallow boxes over which skewers or pyramids of foods are stacked and grilled.

Todd English made waves with a vertical version of this type of grill at his Blue Zoo restaurant in Disney World; whole fish stand vertically and are grilled around the heat source in the center.

Giardini is opening Umi in the old Noche nightclub space in Harborside Plaza, and rumors have it that chef John Belleme, most recently of Henry’s in Delray Beach, will be opening the restaurant with him and helping develop the menu.

A November soft opening is planned, then a full grand opening is set for sometime in December, as of this writing.

Umi is at 2401 PGA Blvd., Palm Beach Gardens.
