Merlot Ice Cream at Science Museum’s Wine and Food Fest

The South Florida Science Museum will present their first Under the Stars Food and Wine Festival this Saturday, Sept. 24, from 6-9 p.m. – a toast to the end of the summer and the beginning of fall’s night skies.

The special event involving the museum’s domed Celestron telescope, a “science behind the wine” lecture as well as wine tastings, and food samples from area chefs and caterers is open to visitors 21 and over. During the evening, the museum’s lead educator, Sara Bogotch, will be making Merlot ice cream for sampling using liquid nitrogen to freeze the cream and wine.

Guests will be able to see the Celestial Sea – Capricornus, Aquarius, and Pisces, and Uranus, the sixth planet, at its brightest.

Cost is $25 for non-members ($20 in advance) and $20 for museum members ($15 in advance). The Science Museum is in Dreher Park at 4201 Dreher Trail North, West Palm Beach. For information on the event and the museum, call 561-832-1988 or go to www.sfsm.org

Food Truck Rally at Mounts Garden on Oct. 2

A day-long food truck rally is set for Sunday, Oct. 2, at Mounts Botanical Gardens in West Palm Beach, from noon-7 p.m. It will be a change in venue for the trucks that typically gather in a parking lot or along a curb.

Food trucks parked in the garden among the lush landscaping will be serving a variety of foods from tacos to grilled cheese and desserts. Prices at the trucks vary from $3 to around $12 for full meals.

The Slow Food Truck, 4Alarm Pizza, Right on Q barbecue and West Palm’s Curbside Gourmet truck are among those vending.

A $5 entry donation goes to the Mounts projects, and a portion of the trucks’ proceeds also will be donated to the gardens.

Live musicians will perform, and beer and wine will be available.

The Mounts is at 531 N. Military Trail, West Palm Beach – across from the Palm Beach International Airport. The entry fee allows guests to wander throughout the gardens.
