Starting Saturday, it’s Beer Week in Tampa, celebrating all things sudsy, hoppy and barley.
The number of craft breweries and brewpubs around the state has multiplied in a decade, thanks to the lifting of import rules and demand by consumers for better beers. Tampa has several notable craft brews, including Cigar City, a gold medalist at the 2008 Great American Beer Festival.
Saint Somewhere in Tarpon Springs, Dunedin Brewery and the older Tampa Bay Brewing Co. brewpub, craft brewers are popping up all around the Gulf Coast.
Tampa has a history of brewmaking, however. Southern Brewing Co. brewed in downtown Tampa for more than 40 years, till 1957; Anheuser-Busch put a brewery here in the 1950s.
