Slow Food: Mango Madness at Erickson Farm

August 3rd, 2012 · 1 Comment

Tastings and discussions about the varieties of mangoes on the farm are part of the annual tour at Erickson Farms in Canal Point, Fl. /photo from Slow Foods Glades to Coast.

Once again, the Erickson Farm family hosts the summertime Mango Madness tour and opens the farm to a day-long mango event. A tour of the farm, lunch and samples of mangoes and other tropical fruits are part of the event Sunday, Aug. 5. Plants and fruits also will be available for sale.

The event showcases the family-run farm that also produces mangoes, avocados, carambolas, and other exotic tropical fruits and edibles. The family has been in agriculture in Canal Point since 1911, and uses sustainable, natural growing techniques that fit into the Slow Food philosophy.

Cost of the tour and lunch is $20; reservations are requested as tickets are limited. Visitors are asked to wear comfortable closed-toe shoes, and bring cash and a recyclable tote bag for possible fruit purchases. A group will meet at Whole Foods, Wellington, to go as a caravan.
