Tony was a Greek who pretty much introduced my home town to pizza. He'd go back to Greece every year with his Caddie in the hold of the ship to impress his relatives and he'd bring the car and some of his family back with him.I walked into a pizza joint in Columbia MO on a high school debate trip and thought it looked oddly familiar. Turns out it was a clone of Tony's run by a relative. When I transferred to Ohio University in Athen, OH, Tom's Pizza looked just like Tony's. Yep. Same layout and another Tony relative. He had figured out a formula that worked: find small college towns and set up your hard-working relatives.Tony's is long gone, unfortunately. I've often wondered what happened to him and if any of his stores are still open.If you're in Tallahassee, I like Paulina's.

My pizza standard was set by Tony’s Pizza in Cape Girardeau.
