Great American Beer Festival This Weekend – in Denver

September 23rd, 2009 · 2 Comments

Hop heads are already congregating by the thousands in Denver for this weekend’s Great American Beer Festival – an annual event celebrating the brew. Tickets for it go on sale in June and have been sold out for some time. Plan ahead!

Find interesting brews here at home

For those who can’t make it to Colorado this year, there are a few spots in our area you might want to hit for their good beer lists and/or brews they make in house.

The Corner Cafe and Brewery in Tequesta has a new brewing facility. Good food, too, (great breakfasts – -more on that in a breakfast article soon) and friendly folk.  298 S. U.S. 1, Tequesta: 561-73-7619; www.cornercafeandbrewery.com

Cook’s in Abacoa, Jupiter, sells a bunch of interesting beers by the six-pack or bottle. They do beer dinners occasionally – but they have a number of other interactive dinners that are sheer fun. Check them out. 1209 Main St., Jupiter; 561-429-8020; www.abacoacooks.com

The Yard House in Downtown at the Gardens in Palm Beach Gardens has so many beers on tap, it’s hard to choose. They have several dishes that are worthy, too. Downtown at the Gardens, 11701 Lake Victoria Gardens Ave., Palm Beach Gardens; 561-691-6901; www.yardhouse.com

Brewzzi, in both CityPlace downtown West Palm Beach, and on Glades Road in Boca. Brewmeister Fran Andrewlevich has won medals for his beers. Their food is hearty! Brewzzi, CityPlace, 700 S. Rosemary Ave., West Palm Beach, 561-366-9753; 2222 Glades Road, Boca Raton, 561-392-2739; www.brewzzi.com

Grease Burger Bar in downtown West Palm Beach has a great beer list on the chalkboard. Burgers are mighty here. 213 Clematis St., West Palm Beach, 561-651-1075; www.bigtimerestaurants.com

Mellow Mushroom in Delray Beach is a pizza place with a ’60s vibe. The chain does a decent pie, but its beer list is what’s notable. 25 S.E. Sixth Ave., Delray Beach; 561-330-3040; www.mobile.mellowmushroom.com

I’m glad to see that you included BX Beer Depot. That is my new favorite place to try yummy beers. They do a football thing on Sunday that is very low-key. I highly recommend hanging out with Nicole and the crew out back.

BX Depot is also the place to go if you want to learn to brew at home, too – and Octoberfest is right around the corner, so you could wow your buds with your own label beer for it.

I also highly recommend Case and Keg — they know their beers and can turn you on to all kinds of new suds experiences.
