Southern Kitchen, Lake Park

August 24th, 2008 · 2 Comments

We had given up on the Southern Kitchen, an old diner in Lake Parkthough it was only a couple of blocks from our house. Service was so poor, and it had become dingy and we just weren’t comfortable eating here any longer.

Now: We’re back! And pleased to report the makeover at the new location (a couple of blocks north, same side of US 1) is fabulous! The food’s great, the service is much better and it’s so open and bright – with neato stools around a flowing counter – we love it!

Here’s a tip: Ask for the “cheesey hash browns,” and order them “extra crispy!” They’re terrific – with a couple of over-medium eggs and a biscuit and sausage – it’s a good, old-fashioned diner breakfast.

There’s a wait on weekends, so plan to relax a bit.

We can say good things about their iced tea here, too. (Why is this so hard to get right?)

You are correct, the new location is much brighter and cleaner.

Wash the cheesy hash browns down with a glass of their wonderful Southern sweet tea… it is awesome!

The food is good and so is the service. The new place is like a breath of fresh air.
