The Coastal Star: First Edition in Time for Thanksgiving

November 4th, 2008 · No Comments

One of the reason I’m not posting as often is because I’m writing for various other publications.

Make welcome the new newspaper for the county’s coastal community, The Coastal Star.  It’s a monthly newspaper (offset — no ink ruboff!) aimed at residents on and around the water in Lake Worth, Manalapan, Highland Beach, Briny Breezes and Delray Beach.

It’s the work of Mary Kate Leming, an ex-Palm Beach Post-er, and her photographer spouse, Jerry Lower, formerly of the Sun-Sentinel. Numerous staffers who were “voluntarily separated” from The Post now contribute to The Coastal Star.

In this month’s edition, you can check out my tips for doing a take-out Thanksgiving dinner from several local spots — at several price points, and getting all or just some part of the meal. Beautiful photos came from Tim Stepien (ex-Post). Composer, and former assistant business editor of The Post Greg Stepanich gives great selections for music to make Thanksgiving Day a tuneful occasion. He’s also contributed a terrific arts calendar of events worth keeping on hand.

Next month, look for my favorite holiday cookies in the Star, with recipes.

The paper’s free — you can pick up a copy at Epicurean Market in Manalapan and Ritchie’s Seaside Deli in Briny Breezes on A1A now; newsstands may be carrying it in the near future and I’ll let you know.

The Coastal Star’s web site is still in the works, but the preliminary one is here.
