Writer Ken Nguyen took on a few high end restaurants and some gastropubs and others while in New York. Always interesting to get a foreigner’s viewpoint on U.S. restaurants.
He talks of the now iconic “oysters and pearls” at Per Se, Thomas Keller’s pantheon to all things clever food. He visits a fairly new boite, Minetta Tavern, a restored Greenwich Village landmark for a burger, then on to La Grenouille for lobster ravioli.
Katz Deli, one of the fabulous big-name delis in the city, serves up the ultimate pastrami sandwich. The Spotted Pig is a gastropub for comforting foods.
He then gives a list of great bars to try (I vote Bemelman’s at the Carlyle).
