Every year I get to judge the cooking competition at the South Florida Fair, and I get wowed by at least a few things.

One thing is clear: We have a lot of great cooks in the area – and not just bakers.

Some clever casseroles, along with fine pickles and jams (my favorite categories) are well represented.

Entry is free – show up with your food from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.. at the Expo building west with the registration form. (Click here to get the .pdf version of the handbook – registration is on pages 5 and 6. Note that the rules for crafts and such don’t apply to the cooked goods – the culinary rules are page 13.) Recipe must be attached. Juniors (16 and under) will be judged separately in all categories, so get the kids involved!

Peanut Butter Sandwich cookies are a home cook's entry - bakers are welcome to submit pies, cakes, cookies and breads.
