It’s a Wonderful Loaf – Scott Joseph’s Bread

December 5th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I LOVE this! Just reading Scott Joseph, a restaurant/food writer in Orlando who has a FLOG — a food blog — I like a lot.

wonderfullife2 Its a Wonderful Loaf Scott Josephs BreadToday, it’s all about a loaf of bread his mom used to make at Christmas – with a twist. It’s timed to the scenes in his fav Christmas movie, It’s a Wonderful Life.

His story is poignant enough — his mom died this year, and so Kleenex warning — it’s a little weepy, just like that old classic movie.

Click over and read it — it’ll put you in the holiday spirit, and give you a tasty reason (it’s got a recipe) to watch the movie again.

I tried making the bread and it came out fine. Maybe a bit bland (needed more salt?), but the texture of the bread was good, not tough, and little bubbles in the bread “fine crumb” not big holes like Swiss cheese. It’s also nice to NOT need a big mixer to make this.

For all the mess and time involved, I may stick with grocery bread, but it’s nice to know how to do it and make some every now and then…..

I’m glad you liked the bread, Lurch. A little more salt is a good idea. Might do well to do a little fleur de sel sprinkle at the end (it could be like the snow falling in Bedford Falls!).
