Food Swap Comes to Palm Beach County June 28

June 15th, 2011 · 1 Comment

Get your pickles pickled and your cakes baked and your peppers potted.

The first Palm Beach County Food Swap is planned for June 28 at Lincoln Culinary Institute.

Open to every home cook, it’s a barter event. Trade some of your cinnamon buns for a half-pint of someone’s salsa. Or a jar of spices for some empanadas, or maybe a bottle of limoncello for a small avocado tree or a bag of carambolas. Anything edible goes. Read about the swap here.

Marie Castro

Marie Castro is organizing the event and signing up participants. Get recipes and learn all about it at her blog, South Florida Food Swap. It’s totally free, but sign up early – space is limited.

All you have to bring is your foods (sealed in give-away containers, and labeled with ingredients), plates or cups for samples, and some bags or a box to take home your loot.

Plan to meet other cooks – and swap recipes and cooking ideas – and take home some really delicious foods. (No food is for sale – it’s swap only.)

Other swaps are planned for Palm Beach, Broward and Dade counties on a monthly basis.

This sounds totally cool! This would be a great way to sample some things you have always wondered about. A good way for home cooks to get out and about now that the food cottage law is going into effect.
