Today is national Food Day, and activities around the area include a panel discussion at the Mounts Botanical Garden Auditorium from 1:30 to 4 p.m.
I’ll be moderating the group of speakers that includes Steve Bonino and Paula Triana, of the Palm Beach County School Food Service, Kevin Fagen and Chef Chris Miracolo from Max’s Harvest restaurant, Ron Rice, Agriculture Program Leader for the PBC Extension program, part of IFAS and the U of F; Nancy Roe, of Farming Systems Research and Green Cay Farms; Geoffrey Sagrans of Localecopia, and Jodi Swank, farmer and co-owner of Swank Specialty Produce.
Join us as we talk about sustainable agriculture, and feeding the hungry, and bringing groups together to work on community based programs that address the needs locally.
Host of the day’s event is the new Palm Beach County Food Bank, run by Perry Borman. I’ll have a story on this site about the food bank and its projects late this week – check back.
FLIPANY (Florida Introduces Physical Activity and Nutrition to Youth) is also part of the day’s event at the Mounts – and that group will give a healthy cooking demo with tastings available.
The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.
Mounts Botanical GArden is at 531 N. Military Trail, West Palm Beach.
